We have spent the last four days sat under a miserable pall of cloud, the weather has been as grey and wet as an old floor mop and equally endearing. People have been scurrying around, long faced, shoulders hunched, grunting at one another; however today the sun has shone, as have peoples personalities (save for the young lady who had just wiped out 3 yards of dry stone wall, when she lost control of her car on a patch of ice on the ’squiggly road’ this morning; shaken but unhurt, I think she was less than happy with the clear skies that have caused the temperatures to plummet.
But in general the cold but bright weather has cheered everyone’s spirits, just the sort of weather for a bracing walk.
The garden seems to be shimmering with birds, I suppose it is because there is little in the way of foliage for cover left for them, today we have had all the regulars, wren, robin, finch, nut hatch, thrush and blackbirds a long with a couple ’specials’ a pair of jays and a lesser spotted woodpecker. I let the cotoneaster bushes grow tall this year, for its berries as food for the birds,
this has taken some light from the kitchen but has brought the birds feeding on the berries, up close and personal; I would like to show you a picture of the thrush feeding on the berries, but I lack both the skills and the patience.
The temperature is now at 1.6 degrees C, I had best go check for bananas, it’s going to be a cold night.
