Stuart, I hope your mum hasn't suffered too badly in the floods, I got quite choked up watching the footage of the elderly being rescued, because I know just how much something like that would upset my own mum, that and the indignity of being manhandled into a dinghy (and yet I know it would have been done with every care and compassion by the rescuers.) It is something the frail and the elderly don't always have the stamina to bounce back from... it's just too much for them.

It is indeed Booths; Mrs Laidbackrunner and I purchased some beverages there, including some fizzy pop, which we consumed in a 'thank god that's all over' sort of session after our exhausted husbands had finished the Bob Graham Round and were cleaned fed and safely tucked up in bed. We felt we'd earned a little celebration. Little did we know it was the beginning not the end of such events.

I am so sorry to hear that. Lovely Cumbria is the only place I’ve ever visited in Britain, other than airports, and I just loved it. My heart goes out to PC Barker’s family and friends and colleagues, and to all the communities that are dealing with the floods.

A real tragedy and my heart goes out to his family.
The rain has been very heavy over the last few days. I ran 14miles today on the fells and It never let up. Everywhere is a bog.
The situation must be very difficult in Cumbria
