Watching nature take its course, from the top of a hill in northern England

Warming the Parts

That other sunrises just can’t reach.

If you are a little bird and it’s been a very long and very cold night, the warmth of the morning sun must be very welcome

Where the sun does shine

Watching the rhythm of rural life, from the top of a hill in northern England. Having spent most of my life avoiding writing, I now need to do it! I am no domestic goddess, but if I were expecting visitors to my home, I would whisk round with the duster and plump up the cushions and generally make the place look presentable. I hope that by putting my words where others may see them it will encourage me to ‘tidy up and push the Hoover around’ my writing. On the other hand I may just be adding to the compost heap. Only time will tell! Pull up a chair, sit yourself down, I’ll put the kettle on.

  1. I sometimes wonder how the birds can stand winter. And why they all don’t fly south to warmer climes.

Lovely capture. I like the light, shadows, and colors.

  2. Very cute, all fluffed up against the cold.

  3. This little bird has been through some cold, cold winter nights lately, too, and would like to think she looks that fluffy and rosy as she backs up to the woodstove. She would be wrong, but she would like to think that.

  4. Awww ~ yes, the birds have been busy fluffing up their feathers here, too, to trap in the warmth. Your little bird reminds me of the one on my header at the moment in his little hidey hole!

  5. A bit of sunshine certainly makes all the difference in weather like this! xx

  6. I LOVE this picture! It made me laugh. Cute little bird warming its bum. The light and composition of this photo is perfect!

Come on, join in.
