Thy neighbours chickens.
Our neighbours have some new hens, a breed called Bluebelles, they are a rather lovely shade of gun metal grey, very pretty.
They weren’t up for having their photos taken, they are a little timid, with me at any rate (unlike ours, who are such brazen hussies that it’s difficult to get far enough away from them to get them in focus)
The bluebelles are quite chatty, with a very sweet voice,
I think we might have to have a couple.
You have helped me solve a problem! We have seen some lovely hens pecking around and about in our village. They wander through many gardens and I have asked a few people what breed they are and nobody knows – but now I do! I agree they are really a lovely colour – I wonder if they lay well?
I’ll ask for you!
They certainly are very handsome!
🙂
If a chicken can be pretty, they are quite pretty! Actually my f-i-l had some bantys that liked to land on my head that were quite pretty. 😉
They certainly are fine looking birds, but would you need to paint the hen-house to match, they look very Georgian!
Do you think there is a gap in the market, for period hen houses? Farrow and Ball paint would be needed
Banty hens was once very popular around here when i was little.
Hope the fox doesnt get any of them
Nice to see Mr Uhdd yesterday but i missed Tom.
I bet there is nothing better than eating your own eggs. Freshly laid
Yumm Yum
These bluebelles are very beautiful. My mom has a couple of banty’s that are a bit this color, but they are cross breeds. This post made me laugh again, your description of your hens was very funny! And then the picture of your hen matched so well, what a great expression!
arh mrs uhdd, that pic of the fledgling is soooo cute! not so sure on the frogs though!
bye, sara. xx
I have four Bluebells, 16 weeks old. They are a lovely hen.
Interesting colour too, like a lavender grey !
I have just bought 2 bluebells for there colour alone, it was love at first sight.
They are beautiful aren’t they
I’ve got 4 of these, fell in love with the colour at an auction so went out and sourced some from a breeder, they’re fantastic layers, being a hybrid from the RIR’s and ours haven’t stopped laying all winter!!!! very pleased with them, so pleased we’re buying a few more 🙂
i have 4 of these!!!!
they are very good layers sometimes laying double yolkers!!!
lovely charactors and get along well with our other four hens.
L O V E T O R U N !!!
just bought bluebelles as our last ex-bat died of old age last night, and our one point of lay looked very forlorn! what a beautiful colour!
The Bluebelle is actually a hybrid bred from a Maran and Rhode Island Red, and they lay as well as any other hybrid – around 250 a year. The closest looking pure breed would be a Blue Orpington, which will only lay around 180-200 eggs per year but are also good eaters, being an old utility breed. They’re both gorgeous though 🙂
