Upland Spring

The higher up the hill you go, the longer it takes for spring to catch on,

Upland spring

In the shelter of the valleys wood anemones and violets are in flowers, on the edge of the moors above the Goyt Valley things are a little more conservative, the grass is still a bleached bone white, this years bracken has yet to force through last years residual thatch

Dead bracken

and the burnt heather hasn’t yet greened up.

Burnt Heather

(Mind you, this was the Goyt Valley on April the 6th 2008, so I can’t blame nature for showing a little caution)

Bleached grass

lower down the valley the trees are flushing green, they are stealing a march  on the grass, the clour of which is shown here ‘straight out of the camera’, it is this white.

  1. It’s years since I’ve been in the Goyt Valley, must do something about that this summer. I wonder if the owls still line up on the stone walls as they did 20 odd years ago? Not sure what kind they were but only small – maybe short-eared owls.

I enjoy watching the green slowly creep its way up in elevation. And you can see flowers bloom down in the valley, and follow them up the hills for a month or so.

Little owls, I followed the link, they are too cute! Owls are one of my favorite animals now, and they keep coming up for me in many different ways.

    Enjoy the spring energy!
