It feels like I’ve been away for a while, but I’m not sure where, the last few weeks have been over stuffed with events, even by this families somewhat manic standards (not to mention overwrought at times too.) I feel a little fragmented,
Stained glass fragments, Cartmel Priory
in need of a bit of downtime, rebooting if not reinstalling, roll on the summer holidays.
This weekend has seen all three of my men folk off on adventures, (three separate piles of of gear, sun cream, midge cream, foul weather gear, you name it it’s been packed up and shipped out.) Whilst I’ve grappled, single handedly with a gazebo on a sports field and have been generally nice to the public, when I didn’t really feel like it. Sunday afternoon saw me sprint up the M6 to Cartmel Priory, to hear Joe sing in a schools choir event and what a beautiful little oasis of calm that was (and I managed not to cry when they sang Eric Claptons ‘Tears in Heaven’ which can make me blub when played on Radio 2, let alone sung by a bunch of kids in a 12thC priory.)
It’s the second time I’ve been to Cartmel it’s a beautiful place and one where I’d like to spend some time when I’m in less of a rush, if ever.
I found a couple of girls searching the river for fragments of pottery,
they had a keen eye, I’d have loved to join in, the sort of thing I loved doing as a kid
Back at the priory, I was amused to see a Segway parked in the porch
I think the hat speaks volumes.
Our journey home was a long haul, the M6 south bound had been littered with accidents all afternoon, some major, some minor, not to mention breakdowns that were a tragedy waiting to happen, I’m thinking of a young women in a coral pink sun dress, I think she was trying to look like a damsel in distress, she was messing about on the hard shoulder/lane one, like it was a pretty place for a picnic, it’s not, its a dodgy place to be, people die on the hard shoulder, I know, it happened to a friend.
On a lighter note whilst we were heading home, Mr Uhdd rang to tell us he could see a pod of killer whales swimming along side the yacht as they make their way down to the start of the Three Peak Yacht Race, try as hard as we might, we couldn’t see anything as exciting as a pod of whales on the M6, we were a little envious; here a few more photos of Cartmel and its Priory

Blue door
from a slightly different angle, the door and vestibule looks like Dr Who’s TARDIS to me, as though you might step through it in to a different world.

Wonderful, wonderful shots, Uhdd. I LOVE that first shot of the blue door. Excellent work.
Know exactly how you feel about needing a defrag…
the blue door is amazing! i have in my head something about a blue door but cannot think what! maybe a song or something?
Was it Shakin Stevens? Or was that a green door? But what is it about that door?
I followed a car the other day with a lurcher hanging out of the rear window, he was having a wonderful time, lurchers noses are quite something aren’t they; they are the size of field mushrooms!
Lovely shots. The blue door is my favourite too.
As for the Killer Whales, most jealous am I of Mr.Uhdd. I’ve once been on a a boat with a pod of Orca swimming alongside and it was I think one of the most magnificent experiences I’ve ever had.
NiC last night’s text told us that Mr Uhdd had been helming at 2am when the boat was flanked by dolphins, the moon light shining on their backs, how cool is that. Apparently they orcas were so close they could feel the spray from the blow holes
A lovely post and wonderful images! That blue door looks rather out of place, as does the Segway! I’m sure that you noticed the towel the girls were using for their pottery fragments matches the door.
I do rather envy Mr Uhdd seeing dolphins and orcas like that! xx
Nice post, DH and I visited Cartmel last summer and it’s a really nice place. The blue door is lovely, I must have seen it but don’t remember it. Don’t envy you the journey on the M6, it can be really awful, we usually try and do it early morning or early evening to avoid the worst of the traffic.
I think I once visited the owner of the house on the left of the top picture. I was surprised that she wasn’t at all worried about rising damp!
Wonderful photo of the blue door.
Absolutely charming – I am so jealous of all the fabulous buildings!!!
