A very pleasant couple of hours, spent drinking mulled wine and eating mince pies at a neighbours house this afternoon. Then we all meandered our way home*

The snow came today, all the usual roads are closed the A57 ‘Snake Pass’, the A532 ‘Cat and Fiddle’ There wasn’t much moving in the lane either

The boys went sledging, Mr Uhdd dug his cross country skis out of the loft and went for a spin; now when it comes to skiing, I’m a downhill only, sort of gal, actually, I’m not sure if I could manage that any more it is so long since I’ve been skiing: but I could sit in a mountain restaurant  and drink hot chocolate or mulled wine, I do know that.

* I can only think the umbrellas had something to do with the mulled wine, as it wasn’t actually snowing or raining at the time, has Mary Poppins been on TV again already?.

Watching the rhythm of rural life, from the top of a hill in northern England. Having spent most of my life avoiding writing, I now need to do it! I am no domestic goddess, but if I were expecting visitors to my home, I would whisk round with the duster and plump up the cushions and generally make the place look presentable. I hope that by putting my words where others may see them it will encourage me to ‘tidy up and push the Hoover around’ my writing. On the other hand I may just be adding to the compost heap. Only time will tell! Pull up a chair, sit yourself down, I’ll put the kettle on.

  1. The lane must be tricky
I miss my 4×4 for such situations

  2. Mary Poppins is being shown on BBC1 Wednesday 30th at 3.35pm! xx

  3. Mulled wine can do that to a person, I hear. Turn her into Mary Poppins, I mean.

What a wonderful pattern the drystone walls make in the snow!

  4. We had mulled wine and warm mince pies yesterday after a long drive home in all that white.

I wish I’d had time to get out in this landscape to take some shots, but I don’t think the snow is going anywhere fast.

  6. Your snow looks so poetic. Mine is just for shoveling, couldn’t find the beauty in it yesterday.

  7. off for a snowy 14mile run in ten minutes
    brilliant
i wished we had more than just a few precious days of snow each year

  8. Beautiful photos! How cares why the umbrella was up, looks fab. Oh for some mulled wine right now. I just made gingerbread men!

  9. I think I’d be sliding down that hill, rather than walking! Beautiful winter weather you are having. We’ve been rather soggy around here. I’m going to have to find a mulled wine recipe, I think.

Come on, join in.
