Watching nature take its course, from the top of a hill in northern England

December 24th

Another inch or so of snow fell last night.

Goyt Valley-2

The Goyt valley is looking very fine, I was taken with how different species of trees shed their weight of snow. There are more snowy photos of the Goyt Valley here, from April 2008.

We are very fond of happy baby stories in this house, so we all went ahhhhh, when we read that Glossop Mountain Rescue team had played their part in helping to safely deliver a baby; now I’m aware that Mountain Rescue teams can be a tad, shall we say, ‘competitive’ about their call outs; so I suspect that not to be outdone, all the other teams in the Pennines are now shadowing the local shepherds (shepherds being more readily available than trios of kings) and that  list of six figure grid references for all stables  has been made available to team members, is it going to be clear enough for stars tonight I wonder?.

Watching the rhythm of rural life, from the top of a hill in northern England. Having spent most of my life avoiding writing, I now need to do it! I am no domestic goddess, but if I were expecting visitors to my home, I would whisk round with the duster and plump up the cushions and generally make the place look presentable. I hope that by putting my words where others may see them it will encourage me to ‘tidy up and push the Hoover around’ my writing. On the other hand I may just be adding to the compost heap. Only time will tell! Pull up a chair, sit yourself down, I’ll put the kettle on.

  1. Nice pictures – my garden is currently lost under 6 inches or so of white stuff, and there’s more falling as I write.

Lovely story about the baby as well. Aaaaaaaw. Many (well, more than she’ll admit) years ago, a colleague of mine was born on a lifeboat, and she still sends them a Christmas card, even though the crew has changed many time.

  2. So beautiful – Merry Christmas to the UHDDs

  3. A very Merry Christmas to you and yours. Such a fantastic place to live with the snow and scenery. Dont overdo it on the mulled wine though…x

  4. Merry Christmas to all in the UHDD household!

Hope you have a great one!
