Watching nature take its course, from the top of a hill in northern England

Flower Power

Garden center-2

At the garden centre today. The scent was as beautiful as the colour.

And to prove there is just a tiny bit of of snow  left on the hills

a tiny bit of snow-2

Watching the rhythm of rural life, from the top of a hill in northern England. Having spent most of my life avoiding writing, I now need to do it! I am no domestic goddess, but if I were expecting visitors to my home, I would whisk round with the duster and plump up the cushions and generally make the place look presentable. I hope that by putting my words where others may see them it will encourage me to ‘tidy up and push the Hoover around’ my writing. On the other hand I may just be adding to the compost heap. Only time will tell! Pull up a chair, sit yourself down, I’ll put the kettle on.

  1. there’s nothing better than flowers in bloom as the first sign of spring.

ps. i love the shot of the flowers at the garden center. 🙂

  2. I loved the pansies of course, but what most impresses me is your ability to show us the folded, slanted, twisted terrain of your beloved hills.

  3. We have crocuses and daffodils out here. Plus, new this season, a glorious camelia. It is only small yet, but it would be wonderful if it lived to be big. Then it would look even more incongruous – scarlet doesn’t seem the right colour for a spring blossom. Other shrubs aren’t doing quite so well. I think I may have lost up to a dozen plants this winter, the hardest winter in 30 years. That means there are gaps to fill so a trip to the garden centre will be needed. It doesn’t feel quite right to be planning for this just yet though, with the ailing plants only seeming dead but not yet certified dead, and certainly not buried, in the compost heap, yet.

  4. Wow – to all the beautiful pansies in a row.

  5. Yes def colour is about.
