Watching nature take its course, from the top of a hill in northern England

Here be Butterflies

I’m now in deepest Devon, by the sea. Along the tracks and paths are pools of sunlight, where butterflies bask

Here be butterflies -2

We’ve been visiting this area, for many a year now; last year I had chance to see some gorgeous butterfly illustrations. See here

Watching the rhythm of rural life, from the top of a hill in northern England. Having spent most of my life avoiding writing, I now need to do it! I am no domestic goddess, but if I were expecting visitors to my home, I would whisk round with the duster and plump up the cushions and generally make the place look presentable. I hope that by putting my words where others may see them it will encourage me to ‘tidy up and push the Hoover around’ my writing. On the other hand I may just be adding to the compost heap. Only time will tell! Pull up a chair, sit yourself down, I’ll put the kettle on.

  1. Hope you, your menfolk and Spud have a lovely time (assuming you are all there together as usual…).

If you need a cuppa/bed/rest break on the way back up north you know where we are.

  2. How nice to re-visit the wonderful post about the Great Green Grasshopper. You do such good work–and clearly vacations recharge your batteries!

  3. Aaaah, Devon. That takes me back. To a fabulous holiday in a caravan, with 4 days of absolutely glorious sunshine (and the remaining 3 huddled inside hiding from the gale force winds and horizontal rain!).

Have a lovely time, and may the weather be kind to you.

  4. Lucky you, have a good time! xx
That’s a wonderful image! I remember those posts and enjoyed reading them again.
I’ve been seeing lots of butterflies the past few days and will be doing the Butterfly Conservation Big Butterfly Count

  5. What gorgeous light on that butterfly!

  6. What a nice job you made here. Both this butterfly – and the post from 2009 “something special” 🙂

  7. This is a WOW, Uhdd! What a fantastic photo of the butterfly, the fern and that delicious bokeh. Well done!

  8. I hope you all have a good holiday, and find lots of interesting things to show us. When one’s in the habit of looking, as you are, there’s always something, every time you leave the house. That’s what I’m finding with all my dog walks. We’re still managing to explore a new local footpath every day, and we’ve kept that up for three months now! What an adventure.

Come on, join in.
