Watching the rhythm of rural life, from the top of a hill in northern England. Having spent most of my life avoiding writing, I now need to do it! I am no domestic goddess, but if I were expecting visitors to my home, I would whisk round with the duster and plump up the cushions and generally make the place look presentable. I hope that by putting my words where others may see them it will encourage me to ‘tidy up and push the Hoover around’ my writing. On the other hand I may just be adding to the compost heap. Only time will tell! Pull up a chair, sit yourself down, I’ll put the kettle on.

  1. That’s cute.

    🙂

  2. Well, at least it’s not a cigarette.

    Small blessings, eh?

  3. I look into those golden eyes and I think, what a nice dog you are Spud, what a . . . wait, wait! Where did you get that feather?

  4. SilverTiger and Gerry’s comments made me laugh almost as much as the photo did!
I am just going to assume Spud found the feather already separated from its original owner.

  5. Spud’s expression is priceless. He looks so philosophical – win a few, lose a few. You should print that nicely and frame it — it would make a great portrait.

    • It was a chicken feather, one previous owner, discarded thankfully, by a moulting chicken. Spud doesn’t ‘worry’ chickens unlike Moss our previous dog (I’ve never published the photos of ‘the chicken incident’!)
But he does, given half a chance like to get them get them all of a flap and up in the air, it’s his genetic heritage.
He also likes to chew on charcoal, I have to keep the fire guard up, or he has his nose in amongst the glowing embers! (he’s lost his whiskers before) oh, and windfall cooking apples, which he brings indoors to munch.

  6. LOL! He looks almost guilty…

  7. It looks as though you caught him in the middle of something, with his look saying “What? I didn’t do it!”
    What a sweet boy.

  8. A priceless photo, and his expression says it all ~ certainly a photo to bring a smile.

  9. Hi Mr. Spud! Nice to meet you. I wish you could meet your far far relative Mr. Coffee one day. What do you think?
