Watching nature take its course, from the top of a hill in northern England

Fellow Wall Walkers

Following on from the previous post, Spud is not the only cohabitee to stride out along  a wall.

There was Thing One the, late, great, chicken superior

And Dandy the cat,  who would walk around the entire field with me, by trotting along the top of the wall, so as to save getting his precious  wet paws in the wet grass but his hips are bit creaky for such exploits these days.

Watching the rhythm of rural life, from the top of a hill in northern England. Having spent most of my life avoiding writing, I now need to do it! I am no domestic goddess, but if I were expecting visitors to my home, I would whisk round with the duster and plump up the cushions and generally make the place look presentable. I hope that by putting my words where others may see them it will encourage me to ‘tidy up and push the Hoover around’ my writing. On the other hand I may just be adding to the compost heap. Only time will tell! Pull up a chair, sit yourself down, I’ll put the kettle on.

  1. *chuckles*

The mental picture of Thing One moseying around the walls, followed by Dandy the cat (I know, it wasn’t at the same time!) has made me smile. Ah, the wonders of an over-active imagination.

  2. I was rather thinking that Thing One might be following behind Dandy, but you know how I am.

  3. Could it be that you live in storybook land with all these wonderful animal escapades?

  4. Animal pictures always attract me and I congratulate you on these.

For me, there is little so precious as to achieve a bond with an individual from another species and to feel that I have become a part of their conscious world as they are of mine.

You have caught that moment of recognition and attention perfectly in the cat photo. A timeless portrait.

    • Thanks Silver Tiger, it was having Dandy’s nose right in my face that allowed me to ‘capture’ him like this is my favourite shot of him. He’s always been a handsome cat and a stealer of affections.

  5. That’s a wonderful picture of Thing One! xx

  6. If there was a “Thing One,” was there also a “Thing Two?”

  7. I love that you have wall walking companions on your walks! How neat is that!?!

Your photos are always so lovely! What beautiful things you experience!

  8. Alas no beautiful walls here, but our chooks used to love standing high up on tables, chairs (attempted to stand *in* the privet hedge, along with one of the crazy rabbits too)… occasionally bellowing at each other across the garden. The cats also have their own perching platforms on particular fence posts and next door’s extension. We always like to think that they’re surveying their ‘kingdoms’, or perhaps doing a bit of air traffic control.

  9. Really loved these photographs

  10. We used to have orange cats with an abundance of personality.

Come on, join in.
