I’ve been to Nottingham today, I got distracted on the way back and missed the best of the setting sun, but I caught the moon (well it wasn’t exactly hiding its light under a bushel).
This is the landscape of the White Peak of Derbyshire, softer more rolling than I usually serve.
When I left home first thing it was foggy, I drove though a light dusting of snow and found a sharp frost down in Via Gellia and Cromford
The reason I was late home was my first visit to Scarthin Book shop in Cromford, I’ve often thought of taking a look, but never stopped before, it is an experience that is probably not for the claustrophobic, but is most definitely an experience and worthy of a blog post in its own right and that means I’ll have to call in again, the next time I pass by. After all who can resist a shop that describes it’s customer service as ‘both quirky and competent’.
I remember ‘Over the Hills and Far Away’ from the Sharpe series… a tune as haunting as the moon watching over the rolling hills.
Lovely clear view of the full moon ~ we had an amazing sunset as well, and the full moon is peeking between clouds.
After reading about your adventurous chicken, cat and dog, I have written you a poem which you can see on my post … or links below, title, page 1, page 2. You’ll recognize the theme, I’m sure 🙂
The colors in the moonrise are so beautiful you’d think it was autumn rather than bleak midwinter. The light just shimmers. Can’t drive through that sort of thing. You’d end up in the ditch. Best to just stop and take pictures so we can see it too. As for Scarthin’s – it was all I could do to leave the website. Have no idea how I could tear myself away from the shop itself. What a fine day you had!
I actually pulled over to take some shots of the fading sunset, but the moon tapped me on the shoulder and said ‘Oi, look over here!’. Its a truism that the best shot is often behind you.
One small change to replace page 2….
And for the full poem, which is brilliant, have a look here

Whoops sorry I did this comment before seeing the one above with all the links ! xx
Oh Glo thank you!! Your poems are such a tonic and the craftsmanship of your blog stunning.
Animals (and children) are such a rich source of materiel, never a dull moment.
Gorgeous picture. There was a full moon last night —
I try to stay away from bookshops. They are very hazardous to my budget.
That sounds and looks like my kind of bookshop! xx
Lovely moon shot.
I know of a bookshop like that here in the U.S. I almost got lost in there once. Wonderful place! 🙂
I love the description of their customer service. I wonder if we could get away with describing ourselves as ‘competent and long-suffering’?
