Watching the rhythm of rural life, from the top of a hill in northern England. Having spent most of my life avoiding writing, I now need to do it! I am no domestic goddess, but if I were expecting visitors to my home, I would whisk round with the duster and plump up the cushions and generally make the place look presentable. I hope that by putting my words where others may see them it will encourage me to ‘tidy up and push the Hoover around’ my writing. On the other hand I may just be adding to the compost heap. Only time will tell! Pull up a chair, sit yourself down, I’ll put the kettle on.

  1. Sorry to hear of your loss. The departure of a friend is a time for sadness. Later the memories of happy times with him will return to be celebrated.

  2. I am so sorry for your loss. Still reeling from a recent loss of my cat, I genuinely do feel your pain. Please be gentle with yourself for awhile as you grieve..

  3. I’m so sorry. It’s so hard to lose a friend. Positive thoughts your way.

  8. so sorry. I cried/was on the verge of crying for three days when our last cat died. They are so special.

  9. Oh no, badly timed post on my blog, sorry! Hope you’ve lined up a replacement, heartless as that may seem…

    • Son #1 has been seen surfing the RSPCA website. And having watched him and son # 2 chasing around the field with a pair of hockey sticks and a plastic bucket trying to catch a rat (unsuccessfully) I can see we have need of a cat urgently

  10. I’m so sorry. Our first cat, lost 11 years ago, is still remembered in discussions of his crazy antics. They never really leave us.

  11. Seventeen years is a very good age for a cat. And what years they were! No cat could have lived in a more idyllic place, and with such a fascinating family to watch! You provided constant entertainment for a cat, and lap-time too.

  12. He was a beauty. It’s so hard; the furry guys are a part of the family. I’m sure Dandy’s memory will endure.

  13. I’m sure that you’ll remember him with fondness! xx

  14. We know we’re going to outlive our little buddies from the moment they enter our lives, but it still hurts like hell when the inevitable happens. I’m sorry for your loss.

  15. Terrible and sad news. Nothing else to say really.
A certain young dog here is VERY good at rats. We must organise something….

  16. Hugs and tissues. :o(

  17. Very sad news: I am so sorry.

  18. I am sorry to hear of Dandy’s death. What a fine cat he was. You will remember Dandy stories all your lives. So will we.
