Watching nature take its course, from the top of a hill in northern England

Have you seen my week?

I put it down somewhere and now I can’t find it… It’s a shame because I was going to put a lot into it, and now I’ve got stuff left on my desk and long lists not ticked off in my note book.  Sigh.

What can I tell you, it snowed and then it rained and rained some more; snow is more photogenic than rain.  Let me illustrate, our friendly pheasant in the snow, looking handsome.

Our friendly pheasant in the rain, pleading with Mr Uphilldowndale to let him in, via the bathroom window, not such a good look.

Watching the rhythm of rural life, from the top of a hill in northern England. Having spent most of my life avoiding writing, I now need to do it! I am no domestic goddess, but if I were expecting visitors to my home, I would whisk round with the duster and plump up the cushions and generally make the place look presentable. I hope that by putting my words where others may see them it will encourage me to ‘tidy up and push the Hoover around’ my writing. On the other hand I may just be adding to the compost heap. Only time will tell! Pull up a chair, sit yourself down, I’ll put the kettle on.

  1. LOvely looking bird, and now safe for another year!

  2. This post made me smile. Yes I do agree the snow is more photographic than the rain, but that is not speaking from experience. I have had very little to do with snow!

  3. I am sorry about your week. I know the feeling all too well.

  4. Only a week gone? I’ve just realized we’re into February — well into, as a matter of fact. I must say, that’s a fine-looking bird, even if a bit soggy at the end. My dad didn’t do much hunting, but every year we had pheasant a time or two, and I remember enjoying it. Out of curiosity, I checked the population statistics for the birds, and both quail and pheasant are increasing. Last year, the population of pheasants increased by 37%. One reason’s good weather, but there were several mentions that ranchers and farmers are doing a bang-up job of creating habitat for them. That’s nothing but good.

  5. Weeks seem to come and go far to quickly. I like the pictures. xx

  6. I seem to have acquired an extra Tuesday and part of a Thursday. Are they yours? I’ll tell you what, you didn’t miss anything special. No indeed. I’d pack them up and send them back to you but I’m afraid they’re not in very good condition. They came on some pretty muddy walks with Miss Sadie, the Cowboy and me.

Contemplate the pheasant. He is much more beautiful than anything you missed. Trust me on this.

Come on, join in.
