Watching nature take its course, from the top of a hill in northern England

Could I ask, what software my WordPress friends are using to write their posts please?

For many years I was a happy bunny with Windows Live Writer,  with a new computer I found that is no longer available, I tried Open Live Writer, this did not go well. Freezing screens, photos failing to load and crashes taking down carefully crafted words and links have left me a little frustrated.

Watching the rhythm of rural life, from the top of a hill in northern England. Having spent most of my life avoiding writing, I now need to do it! I am no domestic goddess, but if I were expecting visitors to my home, I would whisk round with the duster and plump up the cushions and generally make the place look presentable. I hope that by putting my words where others may see them it will encourage me to ‘tidy up and push the Hoover around’ my writing. On the other hand I may just be adding to the compost heap. Only time will tell! Pull up a chair, sit yourself down, I’ll put the kettle on.

  1. I use the old WordPress visual editor, with certain formatting changes made in the WordPress text/html editor. Then, I copy and paste to the my hard drive. I’ve never used anything but the WP editor for ten years, and never had a problem.

  2. Sorry, I use the open live writer ad it seems to work fine 😦

  3. I also use the old WordPress.

  4. I use the new WP editor but I don’t do a lot of (hardly any) formatting so its simplicity suits me. I load my photos into the WP media library before starting to write and get them out as I go along. This has always worked well for me.

  5. I use the old WordPress editor as I couldn’t get on with their new, improved version despite trying several times. xx

  6. I, too, use the old WordPress editor. I just find it easier than the newer version, especially when it comes to posting images.

  7. Your question has been helpful to me too. Being relatively new to WordPress, I’ve only used the newest editor but sometimes I get frustrated with it’s ‘quirks’. For instance, I’ll use central alignment for some text, but it shows as left-aligned in the viewer (argh!). I don’t know any other way of using WordPress though, not yet anyway. So I guess I”m no help, but do understand how frustrating it can be when things change! Good luck!

  8. I use the old WP editor too, as I also work on a lot of wordpress.org sites so it’s consistent. Can’t get on with the “improved” editor.

  9. Another vote for the old editor (you get to it by clicking on WP Admin at the bottom of the menu and then ‘new post’). But I write the text in EditPad first and paste it in so I only need to do the links and the photos on WordPress

  10. Open Live Writer works fine on my machine. Keep trying it.
