Sell Out

‘Pleeeease, can you try and get tickets, pleeease’ Tom begged on Friday morning as he left for school, he’d spotted that Razorlight are going to play at the Buxton Opera House, as part of a set of gigs at ‘iconic locations’

Mr Uhdd and I didn’t hold out much hope, big band, small venue. But at 9am when the tickets were released, Mr Uhdd took his eye off the world of work for a whole 6 minutes and somehow managed to secure 4 tickets for the Razorlight gig in Buxton, the venue was sold out in 10 minutes

Razorlight

The venue is tiny by Razorlights standards, here is the seating plan for the Buxton Opera House

That’s it, full house: its going to be a bit like having the band play in your front room. The Buxton Opera house is more of a confection

than a piece of architecture, it’s an Edwardian gem,

(the photo is not as old as it may first appear, I managed a classic car in the frame, a horse and carriage would have been more true to period, but you can’t have everything.) As a child mum took me here to see my very first film ‘Mary Poppins’

and in our early teens we used to pile on the train in hordes to go and see Saturday matinee films.

Facade

It fell on hard times but has been lovingly restored and hosts a cracking program of performers and festivals

The loyal band of ladies and gentlemen volunteers, all of a certain age and ethos (think National Trust room stewards) who are  the ‘front of house’ staff and are going to have their hands full, with a house full of Razorlight fans; they reprimanded my friend for her overenthusiastic dancing at a  Peatbog Faeries gig.

The bands roadies will be pleased to hear that thanks to the recent installation of a lift back stage they won’t have to haul the gear down and up flight of precipitous steps, just a few concessions have been made to the modern world.

I’ll feel more relaxed about it when we have sight if the tickets, truth be told I’m nearly as excited as Tom.
